Allan H. Nakata has been in the industry for more than 40 years and is the president of Allan H. Nakata and Associates in which he does consulting work for businesses. Mr. Nakata is one of 10 individuals in the state with a registered health underwriter designation. As a former state health chairman for the National Association of Life Underwriters, in 1992, he represented Hawaii in Washington, D.C., on issues of health and long term care. Mr. Nakata is also one of only two individuals in the state who holds a registered employee benefits consultant, as well as a chartered life underwriter designation. He is an instructor for the Agency Management Training Council; one of the most respected courses for managers in the industry is the AMTC. Mr. Nakata works extensively with retirees and the senior market; he is one of a few individuals in the state who has received the national designation as a certified senior advisor. As a member of the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, he has a vast understanding of senior concerns and is able to educate them in these areas. One of the most unique and prestigious designations that an individual can achieve in the industry is a master’s of science and management degree. Mr. Nakata is the only person in the state of Hawaii to hold this distinguished designation.
He is frequently asked to conduct seminars for businesses and association groups such as the senior centers across the state of Hawaii, as well as many of the trade unions. Mr. Nakata is also a frequent guest speaker on the radio with estate planning attorney Thomas A. Rulon, discussing topics such as estate planning and financial planning. In addition, he was the only individual in the industry invited to be on the task force during the 1999 legislation session, which introduced Bill #1158 regarding managed care for the state of Hawaii. Last spring, Mr. Nakata was chosen to be the financial specialist for the television documentary “Silent Majority,” which aired for 12 weeks on Channel 3, featuring seniors in Hawaii.
